ABOUT JASON THOMAS PERFORMING ARTS

Jason Thomas Performing Arts is a dance school based in Truro, Cornwall, established in 2002. It offers classes in ballet, tap, modern jazz, street dance, lyrical and contemporary, musical theatre, acro dance and Silver Swans for adults. The school is registered with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), and the Council of Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre.

Students are prepared for examinations with RAD, Trinity College of London, and IDTA. Former students have gone on to Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Central School of Speech and Drama, Trinity Laban, Millennium Performing Arts, Laine Theatre Arts and other leading vocational colleges.

OUR PATRON – SOLANGE URDANG

Solange Urdang trained at the Urdang Academy and built a successful career in commercial dance, theatre and the music industry before studying art and design. In 2001, she became CEO of the Urdang Academy, developing it into one of the UK's most respected vocational colleges with an internationally recognised reputation. A co-founder of the Black British Theatre Awards and founder of Link Talent agency, Solange continues to champion diversity, cultural exchange and charitable projects in the UK and South Africa.

GETTING STARTED

Enrolling is straightforward. Simply call us on 01872 438812 or send an email to jasonthomasdance@googlemail.com and a member of our team will guide you through the process. We can advise on the most suitable class for your age, experience level, and availability, and help you secure your place. Classes are available for children and adults of all abilities, from complete beginners to those with years of experience.

This depends on the class you are joining. Ballet students will need a leotard, ballet tights, and appropriate ballet shoes. Tap students will need tap shoes, and modern or jazz students should wear comfortable, stretchy dance wear. Street dance classes can be attended in casual, comfortable clothing and trainers. If you are unsure, please contact us before your first class and we will give you specific guidance so you arrive prepared.

Absolutely. We welcome students of all abilities, including those who have never danced before. Our classes are structured so that beginners build confidence gradually, with patient and supportive instruction at every step. Many of our current students started with no experience and have gone on to achieve excellent examination results and perform at prestigious venues including the Regal Theatre in Redruth and Sadler's Wells in London.

Our main studio is based at Mallets Ope, Truro, TR1 2RG. We are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 9pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 6pm. We are closed on Sundays. We also have schools in Bude and Portreath, and our 6th Form Dance College operates from our Truro base. If you are travelling from elsewhere in Cornwall — including Redruth, Falmouth, Camborne, or Penryn — we are easily accessible and within a 20-mile radius of most of the county.

OUR DANCE AND PERFORMING ARTS SERVICES

We provide structured classes in ballet, tap, street dance, lyrical, contemporary, and musical theatre, plus dedicated programmes for younger children and advanced students. Our training includes preparation for exams with recognised bodies and opportunities to perform locally and nationally. With licensed instructors and an inclusive approach, we support every learner in achieving their potential.
